Boys’ Basketball Update by Mike Giongo
Congratulations to the OJR Boys’ Basketball team for a District playoff berth! The Wildcats had a productive 13-9 season and finished tied for third in the conference standings. Although the team did accomplish a lot this year, they finished the year in a funk, losing 4 of 5. In particular, the lack of offense was a cause for concern, as the ‘Cats failed to exceed 50 points in all of the mentioned defeats.
Nonetheless, playoff time is here. The boys’ basketball team is in the District tournament, where the measuring stick for greatness is not particularly regular season records and stats, but grittiness, heart, and determination. The ‘Cats are a team of fighters, and who says fighters can not succeed?
The ‘Cats offensive funk continued in a 44-39 loss to Penncrest in their first playoff game, but they sent a message to the District that they are capable of playing tough-nosed defense. Consistency is the name of the game for the team, as they must find offensive and defensive balance to win in the playoffs. After that, it is their championship for the taking.
Go ‘Cats!
